Hit The Road Jack

New York did not let us down. Sunny weather, great hotel (www.veritehotel.com) and tons of events to go. We choose the classics: State of Liberty, Empire State Building, UN Headquarter and the USS Intrepid including the space shuttle Enterprise. Luckily we found out about the Go-Select Card, available for several cities. You can buy tickets online and the more you buy the cheaper it gets. No time sluts but you can still skip most of the lines, “Will Call” became one of my favorite terms.

3 months ago we bought tickets for the US Open not knowing who would play. Therefore we were thrilled and excited to find out that we will see Roger Federer as well as Venus Williams. Turns out , if you buy tickets for the evening session there are always to matches. Lucky us!!!

On September 1st we could welcome our new travel buddy for the following months, our Toyota Yaris. It is a nice simple car and since than we first drove south to Washington DC and up to Canada. On our way we learned and noticed the following so far:

  • Ever been in a US post office? Men in Black is right!
  • Snapple: Cool name – great drinks
  • Road kills stink
  • All motel managers seem to be Indians
  • You can really buy guns in Walmart
  • If you hear the police for a while without commercials, look out your window. The police might actually stand in front of your door.
  • Aldi is also in the US
  • Help hungry children from home: www.freerice.org
  • Tempo limits are more a recommendation than a command
