Montevideo

Montevideo...the name sounds exotic and exciting but apart from that I did not have a real idea about the capital of Uruguay. According to the books, Uruguay is known as the Switzerland of South America, as it is safe, small and they love popular votes. Eager to learn more about Montevideo we spent two day in its heart, right at the Placa Independencia. Below you find some of our discoveries:

  • Montevideo is a comfortable, livable city with a great atmosphere; unfortunately there is not much to see.
  • When ordering chivito al plato, ensure that you order only one portion for one person. It will be enough for two or three. Chivito is an Uruguayen specialty containing salad, potatoes and meat covered with cheese, ham and other stuff, yummy!
  • Ceviche Chivito Cevapcici: In a cool restaurant in the old city we ordered ceviche somehow assuming that it is some kind of sausage. After waiting a long time and seeing deliciously looking plates with meat and potatoes being served at the other tables our dish finally arrived. Our learning of that day, ceviche has nothing to do with sausages, it is a raw fish salad!  Shit happens and the salad was exquisite.
